Carson Hocevar apologizes for Martinsville actions, accepts Spire Motorsports suspension
Carson Hocevar is taking responsibility for his actions at Martinsville Speedway, apologizing to NASCAR fans and acknowledging that his conduct contributed to his suspension from Spire Motorsports for this weekend’s season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
In an 18-minute apology video posted online, Hocevar admitted to brake-checking Austin Cindric multiple times during the Martinsville race, saying he did it three or four times. He described his actions as embarrassing and disrespectful and accepted responsibility rather than placing blame on his team or others.
Hocevar said he fully agrees with Spire’s decision to sit him out of the Homestead race and urged fans not to direct criticism toward the organization. He acknowledged that the suspension was a consequence of his own decisions and said he understands why the team felt disciplinary action was necessary.
NASCAR also penalized Hocevar following the Martinsville incident, docking him 25 championship points and issuing a $100,000 fine for actions detrimental to stock car racing. The contact left Cindric's No. 2 Team Penske Ford with extensive front-end damage and forced him out of the race. Cindric finished 36th.
Justin Haley will replace Hocevar in the No. 77 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet for Sunday's championship finale at Homestead. Hocevar said he hopes to return in 2027 as a better driver, competitor and teammate.
